A Book Reading with Professor of Slavic Literature Benjamin Paloff reading from his translation of âTworkiâ by Marek Bieńczyk.
Benjamin Paloff is a poetry editor for Boston Review and Assistant Professor of Slavic Languages and Literature and of Comparative Literature at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
His poems have appeared in The Antioch Review, The New Republic, The Paris Review, and elsewhere.
His other translations include Dorota Masłowska's Snow White and Russian Red.
The reading will be followed by a reception with wine and cheese.

Cecilia Woloch
is the author of three full-length collections of poetry â Sacrifice (Cahuenga Press, 1997), a BookSense 76 selection in 2001; Tsigan: The Gypsy Poem; (Cahuenga Press, 2002); Late (BOA Editions, 2003) for which she was named Georgia Author of the Year in Poetry in 2004 â and a chapbook, Narcissus," which was chosen winner of the Tupelo Press Snowbound Competition and published by Tupelo in 2008.
A new book-length collection of poems will be published by BOA Editions in 2009.
Individual poems have been anthologized in Best American Poetry 2005, Billy Collins' 180 More (Extraordinary Poems for Every Day), Garrison Keillor's Good Poems for Hard Times, and The Best American Erotic Poems: 1800 to the Present, among others.
Sarah Luczaj
is a British writer, translator and psychotherapist, living in rural Poland (since 1997) with her husband and two daughters.
Her work has appeared in APR, The New Statesman, Cream City Review, Cider Press Review, Clarion Review and Lyric, amongst others. She has translated the selected poems of Polish poet Halina Poświatowska and Songs for a Dead Rooster by Ukrainian writer Yuri Andrukhovych.
A chapbook of her poems, An Urgent Request, has been published by Fortunate Daughter Press in the U.S. in spring 2009.
SATURDAY, June 6th, 7 p.m.
A Book Reading with leading English language translator of Polish literature Bill Johnston reading from his translation of The Mighty Angel by Jerzy Pilch.
Bill Johnston is Director of the Polish Studies Center at Indiana University.
In addition to Jerzy Pilch, he has translated the work of Witold Gombrowicz, Magdalena Tulli, and Stefan Zeromski, among others.
In 1999 he received a National Endowment for the Arts Poetry Fellowship for Translation, in 2005 he was awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship, and in 2008 he won the inaugural Found in Translation Award.
The reading will be followed by a reception with wine and cheese.
