Rail connections are available with most Polish cities. Intercity trains from and to Warsaw depart every hour (the journey lasts less than 3 hours). Direct international destinations include Berlin, Prague, Hamburg, Vienna, Budapest and Kiev (for details see the English-language website of Polish PKP Railways.) The main railway station is located just outside the Old Town, and is well served by public transport and taxis. The closest recommended hotels are at a walking distance from the station.
John Paul II International Airport Kraków-Balice is one of the busiest Polish airports located 11 km west of the city (see city map). It serves nearly all destinations in Europe, including daily flights to transfer airports popular for trans-Atlantic destinations (London Gatwick, Frankfurt, Munich, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Prague, Vienna or Warsaw). Direct trains cover the route between Kraków Główny central train station and the airport in 15 minutes (the fare is approximately 3$ (10 PLN) - you can buy the tickets in the airport hall) and they are scheduled to leave every 30 minutes. There are also buses and taxis available, which will take you to your hotels (40 minutes by bus - the fare is $1 (3,20 PLN); 20 minutes by taxi - the fare is approximately $20 (60 PLN)). For details see the airport’s English-language website.
